Kalanchoe is a succulent plant with a long flowering period. It is gorgeous and beautiful when blooming and has high ornamental value. Many friends who grow Kalanchoe use the cutting method to propagate. Here, the editor will introduce the cutting method and precautions of Kalanchoe. Let’s take a look. 1. Terminal bud cuttings Terminal bud cuttings are a common method of Kalanchoe cuttings. They are easy to operate, take root quickly, and have a high survival rate. Choose strong branches and use the top part as cuttings. Leave at least 4 leaves and at most 6 leaves on the cuttings, and place them in a cool place to dry the wounds. Then insert it into the substrate, water it and place it in a cool place for maintenance. At this time, you should be careful not to water too much, otherwise it may rot and cause the cuttings to fail. 2. Leaf cutting method The leaves of Kalanchoe can be used to propagate new small Kalanchoe. This method is simple and easy to use, but the growth rate is slower than the top buds, and it takes about 5 months to grow new buds. We can choose thick, green leaves from well-growing, healthy and harmless mother plants, gently pick them off, treat them with disinfectant and then rinse them with running water. Prepare a flower pot and soil with good air permeability in advance, gently insert it into the soil, wet the soil thoroughly, ensure the temperature is between 15℃-20℃, and wait quietly for it to take root. 3. Cutting method of residual flower stalks The cells in the remaining flower stalks after the flowers have bloomed are actively dividing, making them very suitable for cuttings and can greatly improve the survival rate. We remove the pedicels of the dead flowers and clean them up. One stem node can be used as a cutting. Place it in the prepared substrate and place it in a ventilated and semi-shaded environment, keeping it moist. Wait until new buds grow before exposing the plant to sunlight and carrying out normal maintenance. 4. Notes Kalanchoe can easily grow aerial roots in humid air. If you want to use branches for cuttings, it is best to choose branches with aerial roots, or choose branches with relatively thick trunks. Choosing such branches, first, has sufficient nutrient storage, and second, is easier to take root or has fine roots, making it easier for cuttings to survive. The above are the methods and precautions for Kalanchoe cuttings. After the Kalanchoe cuttings take root, they need to be repotted. You can first cut off the malnourished weak roots, and then transplant them into new pots. Be careful during the repotting process. After transplanting, keep the soil dry and plant it in the sun.
