Jasper cultivation method and watering

Jade is a herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Peperomia in the family Piperaceae . Its leaves are thick, plump, green and shiny. It is also a potted plant with strong vitality and shade tolerance, making it very suitable for growing at home for viewing. So what is the method of cultivating jadeite? How to water? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Soil preparation

The best way to grow jadeite is to have a soil environment that is rich in humus, loose and well-drained. The potting soil can be made from 7 parts leaf mold, 3 parts river sand, and a small amount of base fertilizer; or it can be mixed with 6 parts peat soil, 4 parts perlite and a small amount of base fertilizer.

2. Light and temperature management

Jade plant likes semi-shade or scattered light. Except for sufficient light in winter, it needs a little shade in other seasons, especially in summer. However, jade has relatively high temperature requirements. Its daily growth needs to be maintained at around 25 degrees. High temperatures should be avoided in summer, and the temperature in winter should be controlled between 10-15 degrees.

3. Watering tips

Jade loves water and is not drought-tolerant. When it is in its best growth period, we must give it enough water, especially in the high temperature period in summer, and we must increase the amount of watering. It is best to water it once in the morning and evening. This will ensure the humidity in the soil and air, and make the leaves become unusually green. In winter, when the temperature is lower, it is easy for it to enter a dormant period, so reduce watering and keep the soil in the pot properly dry.

4. Reasonable fertilization

Jadeite does not require much fertilizer and does not need to be fertilized too frequently. Generally, in spring and autumn, apply fertilizer once every 10 days or so, using 20% decomposed cake fertilizer water. During the hot summer season, fertilization should be stopped to avoid root rot. In winter, it is advisable to apply extremely dilute cake fertilizer solution or compound fertilizer solution 2-3 times a week in combination with watering.

5. Pest and disease control

Common jade pests and diseases include aphids and powdery mildew. Check plants regularly to see if they are affected by pests and diseases, and take timely measures to prevent and control them. Among them, powdery mildew is generally caused by high temperature and high humidity in the maintenance environment and poor ventilation. The plants need to be placed in a ventilated and cool place for maintenance. Aphids can be killed by spraying 800-1000 times diluted thiophanate-methyl.

In general, Jade is a very easy-to-grow green plant with delicate and thick leaves, strong ornamental value, and not prone to root rot. However, if you want to grow it into good condition, you have to pay attention to some maintenance techniques, such as keeping the soil loose and breathable, etc. Therefore, good watering is more critical.
