How to care for and water the green radish in winter?

As a popular indoor foliage plant, green ivy is often cultivated by many families. In fact, there are many different varieties of green ivy, the most well-known of which is the pure green leaf green ivy. In addition, there are also variegated green ivy, silver-spotted kudzu, golden kudzu, etc. The daily maintenance of green radish is relatively simple, and generally it only needs to be placed in a well-lit place indoors. In spring, summer and autumn, the care of Pothos is not complicated and there are few problems. However, it should be noted that the green radish is sensitive to low temperatures and is not cold-resistant. So how to care for and water the green radish in winter?

1. Avoid placing green radish near heat sources

The leaves and stems of green radish are relatively delicate. In addition to preventing frost damage caused by low temperatures in winter, you also need to pay attention to avoid heat damage caused by indoor heating equipment such as air conditioners, floor heating, radiators, etc. If the green radish is placed near these heat sources, the heat emitted may cause the branches and leaves of the green radish to lose water quickly, causing yellowing and withering.

For families with underfloor heating, placing the green radish directly on the floor will cause the heat from the bottom to accelerate the evaporation of water in the pot, causing damage to the root system of the green radish and causing the leaves to turn yellow and wither.

2. Control watering and keep the soil moderately moist

Some flower lovers mistakenly believe that green radish likes water, so they keep the soil moist all year round. This may instead lead to poor growth of green radish, root rot and yellow leaves. Although the green ivy likes a humid environment, it is also afraid of waterlogging. Frequent watering will cause the soil to be too wet, affecting the respiration of the root system. In the long run, the root system will be damaged and lose its absorption function, causing the branches and leaves to turn yellow and wither.

In winter, due to the lower temperature, the transpiration of the green radish is weakened and the soil dries more slowly, so the frequency of watering should be reduced and the principle of "watering when dry and watering when wet" should be followed, and watering should only be done when the soil is dry.

3. Reduce fertilization and prevent fertilizer damage

As a foliage plant, the green radish does not require frequent fertilization. Occasionally applying some dilute liquid fertilizer can promote its lush growth. In winter, if the ambient temperature is below 10℃, fertilizing should be stopped because plant growth stagnates under low temperatures and the demand for nutrients is reduced. Fertilization may burn the roots, causing yellow leaves and wilting.

If the indoor temperature is high, such as above 20℃, the green radish will still grow and you can apply fertilizer appropriately, but you need to control the concentration of the fertilizer and use a dilute plant nutrient solution to avoid applying concentrated fertilizers to avoid root burn and yellow leaves.

4. Increase light and promote photosynthesis

Pothos prefers a semi-shady environment and is suitable for indoor maintenance without direct sunlight. Exposure to the sun in summer can easily cause the branches and leaves to wilt. However, plants also need a certain amount of light to grow, and they can usually receive scattered light.

The sunlight is soft and the temperature is low in winter. Placing the green radish in a place with sufficient scattered light and increasing the light appropriately will help improve photosynthesis and make the leaves more bright green and shiny.

The above are the key points for winter care of green radish, which can effectively promote the growth of green radish and avoid problems such as root rot and yellow leaves. You can refer to it according to the actual situation.
