Why is Mimosa shy? Pictures of Mimosa

1. Why is Mimosa shy?

Mimosa closes its leaves when stimulated by external factors, mainly because of the "turgor effect" of its leaves. The base of the petiole of the mimosa contains a thin-walled cell tissue called "pulvinus", which is most sensitive to stimuli. As long as the leaf is touched and vibrates, the vibration will be immediately transmitted back to the pulsator at the base of the petiole, causing the leaf to close. When the stimulation disappears, its leaves will reopen and return to their original state in about 5-10 minutes.

2. Introduction to Mimosa

It is also known as sensitive grass, shy grass, calling grass, ugly grass, laughing grass, husband and wife grass, and shy grass. It is a perennial herb or subshrub of the Leguminosae family. Its leaves will close immediately when touched by external force, so it is named Mimosa. Its pods, flowers and leaves all have good ornamental value, and it is easy to grow, making it suitable for family cultivation. However, it cannot be eaten or excessively touched, otherwise it will cause hair loss.

3. Mimosa maintenance method

1. Light: Insufficient light or long-term placement in the shade will hinder growth and weaken resistance. Therefore, it needs to be placed on a sunny balcony or windowsill for maintenance to ensure that it receives 5-6 hours of sunlight every day.

2. Soil: Loose, fertile and well-permeable soil will help it thrive.

3. Watering: The water requirement is relatively high. It is best to water the plants once a day in summer and once every 5-7 days in winter.

4. Temperature: The growth temperature needs to be controlled at around 20-30 degrees. The temperature should not drop below 10 degrees in winter and should not exceed 30 degrees in summer.

5. Fertilization: The demand for fertilizers is low. Apply a thin layer of fertilizer and water once a month to meet its growth needs.
