How to plant winter melon in pots

How to plant winter melon in pots

sowing

Generally, potted plants are grown by transplanting seedlings or direct seeding. We recommend the first method. Put the soil in a disposable cup, dig a hole in the soil with your hands, and put the seeds in. Then cover with a layer of soil and water until the soil is moist.

Seedlings

The seed skin of winter melon is somewhat thick, so its water permeability and water absorption are relatively poor, resulting in slow germination. Normally true leaves will grow about 15 days after planting. Since we are planting it ourselves, it doesn't matter if it's slower. As for the germination rate, it's generally good if two or three survive.

Thinning

If there are multiple seeds sprouting in a cup, just leave one and thin out the rest.

Transplanting

Next, you need to prepare a larger flower pot, preferably one with a depth of more than 30cm and a diameter of more than 30cm. Then we need to dig a hole about the size of a cup in the flowerpot, put the soil and winter melon seedlings in it, cultivate the soil and water it, and the winter melon seedlings are planted. It is recommended to transplant them in the evening.

Scaffolding

When the winter melon seedlings grow vines, you can build a frame. You need to choose better materials. After building the frame, you can use ropes to lead the winter melon vines onto the frame.

Flowering melon

It will bloom after about 50 days. If it bears fruit, only two or three young melons need to be left on each winter melon plant. When the fruits grow to a certain size, you can cut them off with a knife.
