Cultivation methods of fortune tree in autumn and winter

The money tree , also known as the money tree, symbolizes wealth and prosperity and is a popular auspicious plant. It has an elegant shape and a dignified tree posture. Its leaves are oval, bright green and shiny. It is evergreen all year round, full of vitality, with swaying green leaves, which is quite elegant. In winter, just pay attention to these points to keep its leaves green and beautiful.

1. Keep warm

The money tree is native to Brazil and prefers a warm and humid environment. The most suitable growth temperature range is 20 to 30 degrees Celsius. It has poor tolerance to cold and is not frost tolerant. If the temperature continues to be below 10 degrees Celsius, large areas of leaves may turn yellow and fall off; if the temperature is below 0 to 5 degrees Celsius, the plant may suffer from cold damage, and in severe cases even die.

Therefore, in winter, we should pay close attention to temperature changes and take cold prevention measures. When the temperature drops to around 15 degrees Celsius, the outdoor money tree should be moved to a warm place indoors immediately. During the winter, the indoor temperature should be kept above 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, and the plants should be placed as far away from air vents, heaters and other heat sources as possible to prevent cold or hot wind from blowing directly on the plants, causing water loss and leaf scorch and yellowing.

2. Control moisture

The money tree likes a humid environment, but can also tolerate a certain degree of drought. It does not like cold and humid environments. If it is exposed to low temperature and humid conditions for a long time in winter, it will not only be prone to frost spots, but may also suffer cold damage, causing the leaves to droop, turn yellow, fall off, or even rot and die. Therefore, in winter, the frequency of watering should be adjusted to keep the soil slightly moist but not too wet.

When watering the money tree in winter, it is best to do it on a sunny morning. Let it sit for a day or two before using tap water. Avoid using cold water directly to prevent excessive temperature difference from stimulating the plant's roots. Avoid leaving water droplets on the leaves at night to prevent low temperature and humidity from causing rot. If the indoor air is dry, you can spray the leaves and around the plants with slightly warm water to increase the humidity, but spraying should also be done in the morning.

3. Do not apply fertilizer when the temperature is low

The money tree does not require much fertilizer and water. During its growth period, if the temperature is suitable and the plant grows well, you can apply a thin nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound liquid fertilizer once a month. Due to the low temperature in winter, the growth and metabolism of plants slow down and the demand for fertilizer and water is almost zero. The root system of the money tree is relatively fragile and has limited ability to absorb fertilizer and water. Therefore, fertilization is generally not required in winter, especially when the temperature is below 15 degrees Celsius, fertilization should be stopped. Fertilizing under low temperatures will increase the burden on the root system and may cause fertilizer damage, root burn, seedling burn and other problems.

4. Adequate lighting

The money tree is not very demanding on light and can grow in either full light or low light. However, too strong or too weak light will affect the growth of plants. Long-term exposure to strong sunlight will make the plant compact and the internodes shorter, but it may also burn the leaves, causing them to turn yellow and wilt, reducing their ornamental value. Long-term lack of light will cause the branches and leaves to be thin, the leaf color to be dull, and the petioles to droop. Therefore, appropriate light is essential for the growth of money tree.

The sunlight is soft in winter, so you can increase the light appropriately to allow the money tree to get more sun. The plant can be placed in a bright place indoors to ensure sufficient sunlight, promote photosynthesis, keep the leaves bright green, improve cold resistance, and help the plant safely overwinter. Since the money tree has a strong tendency to move toward light, the flowerpot should be rotated regularly to ensure that the plant receives light evenly and grows evenly.

5. Keep the soil acidic

The money tree is an acid-loving plant, but the soil and water in northern regions are often slightly alkaline. Long-term growth in alkaline soil may cause yellowing of leaves and poor growth. Therefore, the soil should be kept acidic in winter and the use of alkaline water for watering flowers should be reduced. You can regularly water the plants with some acidic water to balance the pH and improve problems such as yellow leaf disease caused by soil alkalinity.

In addition, the money tree prefers a well-ventilated and clean air environment and is not resistant to smoke. Long-term placement in a poorly ventilated or smoked room may cause the leaves to turn yellow and burn, and may easily lead to diseases and insect pests. Therefore, the money tree should be placed in an environment with clean air and good ventilation. On sunny afternoons, you can open the windows appropriately for ventilation, enhance air circulation, and promote the respiration and metabolism of the plants.

In short, as the weather gets colder and the temperature drops day by day, we should not relax on the cultivation techniques of money trees in autumn and winter.
