Asparagus planting technology and cultivation

Asparagus planting technology and cultivation

Asparagus has high nutritional value and is recognized as the king of vegetables and the king of anti-cancer in the world. In recent years, with people's pursuit of healthy eating, the demand for asparagus in China has gradually increased. Therefore, mastering the asparagus cultivation technology is of great significance to meeting market demand and increasing farmers' income. Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Seedbed preparation

It is advisable to choose fertile and loose sandy loam for the seedbed. Apply 2500-3000 kg of decomposed farmyard manure, 20 kg of diammonium phosphate, and 15 kg of potassium fertilizer per mu of seedbed. After plowing and fine-tune the soil, make ridges with a width of 1.3-1.5 meters.

2. Seed treatment

The seed coat of asparagus is hard, and it absorbs water and germinates slowly after sowing. To promote germination of the seeds as soon as possible, choose plump and full new seeds, disinfect them with 100 times 40% formaldehyde solution for 30 minutes, then rinse with clean water and soak for 2-3 days, change the water once a day, and then germinate at 28-30℃, rinse with clean water once a day, and the seeds can be sown when they sprout and turn white in about a week.

3. Sowing and seedling raising

Generally, the method of direct seeding in the open field can be adopted. The row spacing of large seedlings is 40-45 cm, the hole spacing is 10 cm, 2 seeds are sown in each hole, and the seed spacing is 3 cm. The sowing rate per hectare of nursery is about 3750 grams, and 7-10 hectares of Honda can be transplanted. When sowing, dig a 3 cm deep sowing furrow according to the row spacing, then sow the seeds according to the plant spacing, cover with 1-3 cm of soil, and press down slightly.

4. Transplanting and planting

When the asparagus seedlings have more than three above-ground stems, they can be transplanted and planted. When transplanting, water the plants sufficiently and transplant them with soil to minimize root damage. When planting, arrange the seedlings in the trench with a spacing of 30 cm and one plant per hole. The end of the underground stem of each seedling with scale buds must face the same direction along the ditch and form a straight line, so that the position of the new shoots that will emerge in the future will be concentrated in the center of the ridge, making it easier to cultivate the soil.

5. Field management

(1) Check and replant seedlings: Check and replant seedlings within one month after transplanting and water the seedlings sufficiently to ensure survival.

(2) Watering tips: After transplanting, water the plants promptly to help them grow slowly. Cover the plants with soil after the water has seeped in. Water the plants as needed based on weather and soil moisture.

(3) Appropriate top dressing: Top dressing can be done once a month during the bamboo shoot growth period, with 5-10 kg of triple compound fertilizer or urea applied per mu. Water should be applied after top dressing.

(4) Weeding and disease prevention: During the asparagus seedling period, the spacing between plants is small and the growth is slow, making it very susceptible to weeds. Weeding should be done frequently, and pests such as thrips, aphids, mole crickets and cutworms should be controlled in a timely manner.

In general, asparagus has the reputation of "king of vegetables", is a must-have dish in state banquets, and has good planting prospects. Therefore, mastering the above planting techniques plays an important role in increasing asparagus yield and increasing profits.
