Can avocados be grown indoors? How to grow potted avocados

1. Can it be raised indoors?

Avocado is a tropical plant that has relatively high requirements for the environment. It is often difficult to grow it well indoors, so it is usually planted in the ground. This plant is sensitive to light, air, and temperature. As a tree, although it can be potted, without a deep enough soil layer, it will limit the growth of the roots and weaken the absorption of nutrients.

2. Breeding methods

1. Pot and soil: Avocado itself is a deciduous tree, so the selected pot should be higher, so as to ensure that there is deep enough soil for the roots to grow. The soil should be loose and fertile, which is more conducive to the breathing of the roots. You can add an appropriate amount of perlite or river sand to the potting soil, and then spread a layer of gravel on the bottom, which can also enhance its drainage.

2. Light: Avocado originally grows in tropical regions and has a relatively high demand for light. It should be placed on the balcony at ordinary times to allow it to receive sufficient sunlight. It is better if the balcony is not enclosed, so as to ensure sufficient sunlight. Since this plant is not heat-resistant, it needs proper shade when the temperature is too high in summer to avoid exposure to strong sunlight.

3. Watering: As an evergreen plant, avocado needs to grow in a moist place, but it is afraid of waterlogging, so it is not advisable to water it too much. Usually, when the fruits are just about to set, watering is necessary. If the soil is too dry, the fruits will fall prematurely. In winter, due to the low temperature, plant growth slows down and watering should be reduced.

4. Fertilization: Avocado needs to be fertilized when it is potted, and generally decomposed farm manure is used. During its growth period, nitrogen fertilizer and potassium fertilizer should be applied frequently, combined with a certain amount of phosphorus fertilizer and organic fertilizer. Fertilize in small amounts and multiple times to avoid fertilizer damage. After harvesting, a large amount of fertilizer is needed to replenish its nutrients.
