What to do if the bulb of Gloxinia rots

Gloxinia rot ball

Gloxinia is easy to rot. When growing it, poor soil drainage or improper watering may cause the bulb to rot and must be disposed of.

When the bulb of Gloxinia rots, the first thing you need to do is to test whether the bulb is hard or soft. If the bulb has become soft, it is best to throw it away. However, if the bulb is still hard, it can be treated and can sprout and grow again.

What to do if the bulb of Gloxinia rots

The first step is to dig out the rotten bulb, then wash it, remove the rotten roots first, and be careful to pull them off directly.

The second step is to use a sharp knife to cut off the rotten parts of the bulb, and continue cutting until healthy and intact parts appear on the bulb. This can prevent the infection from expanding the scope of the bulb and causing it to continue to rot.

The third step is to place the cleaned and rotten bulbs of Gloxinia in the sun for drying. It usually takes about an hour to dry the wounds, but be careful not to let the bulbs become dehydrated.

The fourth step is to apply carbendazim on the bulbs for disinfection.

The fifth step is to replant the processed bulbs. First, you need a real medium. You can prepare clean sphagnum moss, vermiculite, river sand, etc. However, sphagnum moss is better because it can be wrung dry and the humidity can be controlled.

Step 6. Use the prepared sphagnum moss or soil to bury the bulb halfway, and be careful not to bury the wound. Then cover it in a transparent container, and be careful not to let the air humidity in the container be too high, otherwise it will easily rot.

Then, after about a week or two, they will start to sprout.

After the bulbs germinate, if they are grown on sphagnum moss, they need to be cleaned up in time, but be careful not to damage the bulbs. Then cover it with soil.
