Reasons and solutions for anthurium not blooming (5 ways to maintain anthurium so that it can bloom)

Why doesn't the anthurium bloom?

There are generally only two reasons why anthurium does not bloom when it grows normally: one is light and the other is nutrients. Let's analyze these two reasons in detail.

1. Irrational lighting causes Anthurium to grow but not bloom

Anthurium is native to tropical rainforests and has relatively high requirements for light. It likes light but is afraid of strong light.

We can imagine the lighting conditions in a hot rain forest. The trees here are dense, and the light passes through the leaves of the big trees, forming mottled light in the forest, which is sometimes more and sometimes less.

Anthurium grows and blooms normally under this light condition. But after we moved it home, the light conditions were difficult to reach those in the woods, and the light was either too strong or too weak.

In the case of inappropriate light, the flower buds of Anthurium will be difficult to differentiate during its growth, and naturally it will not bloom.

2. Irrational application causes Anthurium to grow but not bloom

If anthurium grows normally but does not bloom, it is usually because the nitrogen fertilizer application rate is too high, and the phosphorus element that promotes the differentiation of flower buds is absorbed too little, and there is no appropriate phosphorus stimulation.

When Anthurium grows normally, it is difficult for flower buds to differentiate and naturally it cannot bloom.

For example, during the growth of anthurium, long-term application of compound fertilizers with high nitrogen content and low phosphorus content can easily lead to this "situation".

If anthurium does not bloom, it is usually due to improper maintenance. As long as the anthurium is well cared for, it will bloom naturally. To grow anthurium well, you must cater to its preferences and give it what it likes, and it will naturally grow well.

Anthurium likes a humid environment

Anthuriums generally grow very well in the south, but they do not grow well in the north, largely because of the humidity. The climate in the north cannot reach the humid state of the north, and the innate deficiency can only be improved through acquired efforts.

We can increase the humidity of the air by spraying water on the leaves and around them frequently, using a humidifier, putting water under the flower pots, etc.

Anthurium prefers slightly acidic soil

This is a pain point in the north and a thorny problem for southern flowers to be cultivated in the north. When caring for anthuriums in the north, more effort should be put into soil cultivation. Some slightly acidic substrates, such as leaf mold and sawdust, can be added to improve and artificially create slightly acidic soil.

Even so, the water in the north is alkaline, so it is better to use alkaline water, and the slightly acidic soil will gradually become alkaline soil. This requires us to work hard on watering and fertilizing, and add a little vinegar or other acidic substances when watering.

Use acidic fertilizers for fertilization, such as decomposed cake fertilizer water, rice washing water, etc., and apply a small amount of ferrous sulfate regularly.

Anthurium does not like strong light, but it cannot lack light

Anthurium does not like direct sunlight. Direct sunlight will cause the leaves to turn yellow and the edges to burn.

But it cannot be placed in a place where the light is too dark, because all plants need to carry out photosynthesis. Only photosynthetic plants can synthesize and accumulate nutrients to ensure the normal growth of Anthurium.

Anthurium likes fertilizer, but avoids concentrated fertilizer

Anthurium needs fertilizer to grow. When there is enough fertilizer, the growth of Anthurium is also relatively fast. Fertilization should be done thinly and frequently, generally once every 7 days. The concentration of fertilizer should not be too high each time. Use thin cake fertilizer water or liquid fertilizer.
