What to do if orchid roots grow out of the soil, or only roots are left?

1. What to do if orchid roots grow out of the soil

Repotting:

Reason: If the plant is not repotted for many years, but the plant continues to grow, the pot will not be able to accommodate so many roots and the roots of the plant cannot stretch freely, so its roots will grow out of the soil. If you don't change the pot in time, its roots will become tangled and squeeze each other, causing some roots to not get fresh air and nutrients, eventually resulting in problems such as empty roots and rotten roots.

Measures: The plant needs to be removed from the pot and replaced with a new one as soon as possible. Before removing the plant from the pot, you can reduce watering and keep the soil in the pot relatively dry to make it easier to remove the plant and prevent damage to the roots of the plant. Then choose a larger flowerpot. The new flowerpot needs to be disinfected and rinsed in advance. Fill it with soil and then plant the plant in it.

Changing planting material:

Cause: If the orchid's roots are growing upwards out of the soil, it may be because the planting material for the plant is not breathable. The roots of the plant have difficulty breathing at the bottom, so they will grow upwards on their own to breathe fresh air.

Measures: It is necessary to prepare planting materials with stronger air permeability for the plants as soon as possible, and the proportion of granular soil can be appropriately increased. After preparation, soak the planting material in disinfectant to disinfect it.

2. What to do if only the roots are left

If the orchid is left with only roots, it may have a hard time surviving. You can plant it first, ensure the air permeability of the substrate, then don't water it too much, keep the substrate slightly moist, and take good care of it for a while to see if it can be saved.
