In which month can dragon fruit be propagated by cuttings? Do I need to water it after propagation?

1. Cutting time

Pitaya cuttings are a common method of propagation. When carrying out cuttings, the climate should be mild and stable. March to May in spring are the most suitable, but it can also be carried out in autumn. The temperature should not be too high or too low during cuttings, it should be stable at around 20℃.

2. Cutting method

1. Cuttings: The cuttings used for propagation should be strong, and relatively strong stem nodes should be cut. The incision should be smooth, and it is best if it is oblique when cut from the mother plant.

2. Disinfection: After cutting off the required stem nodes, apply some wood ash or dip it in some carbendazim powder to disinfect it. You can also dry it in the sun for 3-5 hours and then put it in potassium permanganate for disinfection.

3. Substrate: The substrate for cuttings must be prepared. Coarse river sand or peat soil can be used. Do not use soil that is too sticky. The most important thing is to disinfect in advance, otherwise the bacteria in the soil will invade the cuttings through the incision.

4. Cutting: Insert the disinfected stem nodes into the substrate to a depth of 1/3. Do not damage the outer skin of the cuttings during cutting. You can first dig a hole in the soil and then put it in and bury it.

3. Watering management after cutting

Don't water it after cuttings. Keep the soil dry and wait about 10 days before watering. It takes root very quickly. Before it takes root, it should be kept away from sunlight and the temperature should not change much.
