How to grow dewflower

How to grow dewflower

Breeding techniques

Moisture

Dewflower originally grows in the desert and has a strong tolerance to drought. In the first year of cultivation, sufficient water must be ensured, with the principle of growing it when it is dry and then wetting it.

soil

Dewflower is very drought-resistant, so the soil should be a little dry, and can be slightly moist under good ventilation. The growth rate of dew lily is very slow, so the potting soil can be replaced according to the situation.

Fertilization

The growth rate of dew lily is very slow, so it needs to be fertilized frequently with thin fertilizers. Usually green manure plus Cuijun's chicken PP is used. In the early stage, light green manure is used on the periphery once every 10 days, and when the growth is vigorous, chicken PP is used once every 15 days. In early summer, spray diatomaceous earth plus avermectin once every half a month to prevent red spider mites and aphids.

Reproduction method

Sowing method

The seeds of the succulent plant are small and have a short hypocotyl. They should be sown in fine-grained soil using the general sowing method for succulents. Do not cover them with soil after sowing. Keep the soil moist and translucent. They will germinate after about a week.

Post-sowing care

After germination, the film should be gradually removed for ventilation, and the number of watering should be reduced to avoid soil compaction. The plant will flower after one year.

Precautions

The succulent plants of the genus Dewflower can grow normally throughout the year, mostly blooming in summer, but the flowering period is often only one or two days, and they only bloom under strong sunlight and are self-pollinating. Among them, the tubers of ice flower (tuber dew flower) have high ornamental value. If you want to obtain larger tubers, you must use sowing propagation. The fruit of the dewberry is a capsule. It dries when ripe and should be collected in time to avoid bursting after getting wet.
