Cultivation techniques for elm stumps, how to deal with the roots

1. Cultivation techniques

1. Planting in thick soil: When planting with downhill piles, thick soil is needed to keep moisture and heat. To prevent the tree stump from losing water, you can cover two-thirds of the stump with wet sand and wait until the plant sprouts new buds. After the plants take root, the amount of culture soil can be gradually reduced. In addition, you can also use plastic film to cover the plants to reduce water loss. Be careful not to use clay or nutrient soil with excessive fertility.

2. Spray water to induce roots: Because elm trees prefer dryness and are afraid of waterlogging, excessive watering during cultivation will cause the roots to rot, but insufficient watering will make it difficult for the trees to take root. So you can use a sprayer to spray water on the tree stumps frequently, and you can also spray water on the soil or tree roots.

3. Proper shading: Light needs to be reduced during the period of pile cultivation. Elm tree stumps need shade all year round in the year they are planted, and it is best to place them in a shady place.

4. Apply light fertilizer: Excessive fertilizer will cause fertilizer damage to the roots. The plant's own reserves and the original fertilizer in the soil are enough to allow it to resume growth. During the period of pile maintenance, no top dressing is needed for one to two years.

5. Maintaining the pile at suitable temperature: After the plant takes root, its cold resistance will be severely reduced, so insulation measures need to be taken in winter. When planted outdoors, cover with thick soil. Potted plants can overwinter indoors, but the room temperature should not be too high.

2. How to deal with it

First, place the elm tree stump in a cool place to dry the roots, and apply medicine such as erythromycin ointment to the wounds on the stump. In addition, you can apply rooting powder to the roots of the tree stump to make it take root quickly. When planting outdoors, you can first plant the tree stump in the ground and then water it after about a week. If it is an indoor potted plant, you can first plant it in wet sandy soil. After covering and compacting the soil, do not water it for at least three days to allow it to resume growth.
