Planting and management of peaches

Planting and management of peaches

1. Planting time

Peaches need to be planted from mid-to-late October to mid-to-late January of the following year, when the climate and environment are conducive to increasing their survival rate.

2. Choose a planting site

The soil for growing peaches should be slightly acidic sandy loam with a deep soil layer and good drainage. The soil should be deeply plowed before planting, and some lime should be sprinkled on the surface weeds and then buried in the soil layer. After selecting and preparing the planting site, choose healthy and high-quality seeds for planting.

3. Planting and fertilization

Before planting peaches, apply sufficient base fertilizer to the planting site, and it is best to choose organic fertilizer as the base fertilizer. After applying base fertilizer, bury the seeds in the soil, then cover them with a layer of soil and water them thoroughly. Then pay attention to keeping warm and wait for them to germinate. Base fertilizer is generally applied in winter, and the subsequent topdressing should be decided based on the specific development of fruits and vegetables. However, in general, fruit trees still need to be fertilized during the period when they grow fastest.

4. Tree pruning

Generally, fruit trees will enter a dormant period after they shed their leaves, and the trees can be pruned during this period. When pruning, branches that are too dense or too long should be cut off, while branches of moderate length can be retained. This can avoid unnecessary consumption of nutrients during the dormant period and maintain a good tree shape.

5. Pest and disease control

This work is usually carried out together with winter pruning. When pruning branches, you can cut off branches infected with diseases to prevent scab, peach leaf curl disease, etc., and it can also reduce some pests.

6. Fruit management

It is not the case that the more fruits a peach tree bears, the better. When there are too many fruits on a tree, it is necessary to thin out the fruits.
