Key points of apple planting and management technology

1. Choose the variety

Selecting good varieties is the key to growing apples. At present, the more common apple varieties include Red Fuji, New Red Star, Golden Dwarf, Huaguan, Gala, Shouhong, etc. If you want to buy varieties with strong cold resistance, you can choose Hanxiang and Hanfu.

2. Soil preparation

When planting apples, you need to choose sandy loam with good drainage and rich nutrients, and add enough base fertilizer to it. This will ensure that the soil contains sufficient nutritional value and allow the apple trees to grow better.

3. Planting density

Factors such as the topography and climate of the planting site and the variety of apples will affect the planting density of apples. Generally speaking, the planting density of apples is 4*5 with 33 trees per acre. If it is a dwarf variety, you can plant it more densely, 3*3, 75 plants per acre.

4. Soil management

Before and after planting fruit trees, the soil in the planting area needs to be deeply plowed, and some base fertilizer can be applied during deep plowing. In addition, weeds on the soil surface should be cleaned regularly during the growing season. After the leaves fall in autumn every year, the ground should be plowed about twenty centimeters between each row and each apple tree, and then leveled.

5. Fertilization method

Generally, a large amount of base fertilizer is applied after the harvest of mid-ripening apple varieties, before the harvest of late-ripening apple varieties, and during the root growth period. Fertilization is mainly done around where the roots are concentrated, and the soil should be dug up to apply the fertilizer. But be careful not to apply too deeply and do not leave the roots exposed for too long, otherwise the roots will be severely affected by cold and drought.

6. Fruit tree pruning

When the fruit trees are still young, branches that grow too quickly and destroy the overall shape of the tree should be pruned off to slow down the growth of the fruit trees. Keep the main branches so that the fruit trees can grow into shape as quickly as possible. When fruit trees enter the peak fruit-bearing period, it is necessary to cut off the excess large branches and outer branches in the crown, and thin out the overly dense auxiliary branches to ensure that the crown has good lighting conditions.
