How to maintain saffron and what to pay attention to

1. Loosen the soil

Saffron likes to grow in loose acidic soil. You can go directly to the flower market to buy specially prepared soil, or you can prepare it with garden soil, fine sand, and leaf mold, add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer, and disinfect it before use.

2. Adequate lighting

Sunlight is an essential factor for growth. It prefers sunlight, although it can tolerate partial shade. However, it can only grow well with good light. Therefore, it needs 4-6 hours of sunlight every day during the growing period and cannot be kept in a dark and humid place.

3. Temperature requirements

For saffron, the most suitable growth temperature is around 18-24 degrees. It grows well within this temperature range, so try to maintain the temperature within this range. Be sure to keep warm in winter and do not let the temperature drop below 5 degrees.

4. Apply fertilizer

Fertilizer nutrients can maintain the growth of plants. Before planting, you need to add sufficient base fertilizer into the pot. You can use decomposed cake fertilizer or bone meal. Appropriate top dressing is needed during the growing period. During the rapid growth period, fertilizer can be applied every 10-15 days to maintain good growth needs.

From late April to early May every year, its branches and leaves above the ground may gradually turn yellow, and the bulbs need to be dug out and stored in a cool and ventilated place. When the climate turns cooler in autumn, they can be planted again.
