How to prune lucky bamboo grown in water (with illustrations of pruning methods)

1. Prune branches and leaves

Lucky bamboo grown in water is prone to yellowing leaves, which will affect its overall ornamental value. So when yellow leaves appear, you can pick them off with your hands or cut them off with scissors. In addition, if a branch becomes dry and withered, you can cut off the entire branch.

2. Trim the roots

When the weather is good, prepare the relevant tools and slowly take the plant out of the vase without damaging the roots. After taking it out, observe its roots first. If you find rotten roots, old roots or roots that are not growing well, you can cut them off with sterilized scissors. When cutting, cut it diagonally at the appropriate position, leaving an oblique cut, which can increase the area for it to absorb water and nutrients. After pruning the roots, wash them clean and place them in a vase with nutrient solution for maintenance. After that, change the water every three days.

3. Pruning branches

During the maintenance of lucky bamboo, the leaves at the bottom may fall off, while the leaves at the top continue to sprout and grow. However, the upper branches may appear weak. At this time, you need to keep the two or three leaves at the bottom, and then cut off the new branches and twigs on the top to promote the sprouting of new and healthy branches.

After pruning the lucky bamboo, be careful not to leave any branches or leaves on the part that is in contact with the water surface, and make sure that the branches placed in the water are clean to avoid polluting the water quality.
