Can Gypsophila paniculata be grown in water?

Can Gypsophila paniculata be grown in water?

1. Can it be raised in water?

Gypsophila is not suitable for water culture. Because it grows in soil with a relatively low moisture content, its demand for water is not very high. Water cultivation will cause the roots to be submerged, making it unable to breathe. This is not only not conducive to its growth, but may also cause it to dry up and die. However, if you buy cut flowers, the lower part needs to be placed in water, so that the flowers can bloom longer.

2. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: Baby's breath is suitable for growing in loose and fertile soil. Slightly alkaline sandy loam can be used as the substrate, and appropriate base fertilizer can be added to provide certain nutrients for plant growth.

2. Light: Gypsophila paniculata is a long-day plant. It should be exposed to 14-16 hours of sunlight, which will help it bloom better. If the light duration is less than 8 hours, it will lead to poor growth. Less than 12 hours is not conducive to bud formation, and less than 14 hours will not cause flowering.

3. Watering: Baby's breath is relatively drought-resistant, so do not water it too much. But during its growing period, you need to water it more appropriately to ensure that it grows stronger. Water must be strictly controlled during the flowering period, otherwise the branches will become too long and weak.

4. Fertilization: Baby's breath does not require much fertilizer. Fertilization can be done frequently during the seedling stage, generally applying nitrogen fertilizer once every 10 days. After the flower buds differentiate, you should gradually switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote its flowering. At the same time, stop applying nitrogen fertilizers to prevent it from growing too tall.
