How to grow Prunus mume

How to grow Prunus mume

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: It is a relatively easy plant to grow and does not require high temperatures. It can thrive even in the cold three northeastern provinces. However, it still prefers a humid and warm environment. Therefore, if you want to grow it well, you need to keep the temperature between ten and thirty degrees.

2. Watering: As mentioned above, it likes a humid environment, so the soil should be kept moist for a long time. If the weather is hot, water it once a day. If the temperature is below 20 degrees, water it once or twice a week. It should be noted that each time you water, you only need to water until the soil is completely wet. Do not allow water to accumulate in the soil, otherwise it will easily cause the roots of the plant to rot.

3. Fertilization: After successful planting, you can mix bone meal into the soil at the roots as base fertilizer. Because it is a perennial plant, the nutrients in the soil alone are not enough. You need to apply a thin layer of fertilizer to the soil once a month.

4. Light: It likes a semi-shaded growing environment. When caring for it in the summer, it needs to be shaded. The daily light exposure time should not exceed six hours. It is best to use diffuse light. In autumn and winter, the lighting time can be extended to about eight hours a day.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Transplantation: If the plant is propagated by sowing, it should not be transplanted too early. It should be transplanted after it grows three true leaves, because its resistance is already stronger at this time and the survival rate of transplantation will be higher.

2. Pruning: For mature plants, pruning is mainly done by thinning branches, because some branches grow too lush, which will cause uneven distribution of nutrients and affect the growth of the entire plant. Therefore, those extra branches need to be pruned away.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Pests: Its main pests are aphids. Aphids like to attach themselves between branches and leaves. They feed on the sap of the plants and will affect the growth of the plants. If found, you can use a solution of carbendazim to eliminate the pests.

2. Pathology: Its main disease is brown spot disease. To treat brown spot disease, you can use a 50% concentration of carbendazim solution to spray it.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic. Not only that, its branches, leaves and roots can also be used as Chinese herbal medicine, which has the effect of lowering blood pressure.

2. Main functions: In addition to being used as medicine, it has beautiful flowers and an elegant plant body, making it a good ornamental plant for gardens.
