Methods and precautions for propagating crabapple by cuttings

How to propagate Begonia

Begonias are commonly propagated by sowing, division and grafting. Grafting is the most commonly used method, but layering and division can also be used. The sowing method is only applicable to breeding.

Method of propagation of crabapple by cuttings

Begonias can be propagated by cuttings in spring and autumn. For potted begonias at home, you can choose to propagate them by cuttings in April-May or August-September. The temperature should be controlled at around 20 degrees, which is conducive to the rooting of the begonia cuttings. The survival rate is very high. The specific method of begonia cuttings is as follows:

1. Substrate: Before transplanting crabapple flowers, you need to prepare a good cutting substrate. Loose, fertile, and breathable soil is best. Prepare river sand and wash it with clean water. Dry it in the sun, add some vermiculite appropriately, mix it evenly and use it as culture soil.

2. Cuttings: From the crabapple flowers that are growing well, cut off the strong branches that are free of diseases and insect pests, about 10-15 cm in length. Use sterilized scissors to cut off the leaves at the bottom of the branches, leaving 2-3 leaves on the top. Use scissors to trim the bottom of the branches into a horseshoe shape. Soak them in disinfectant for 30 minutes, take them out, and place them in a cool place to dry.

3. Cutting: Prepare a flower pot with good air permeability, fill the pot with culture soil, and smooth the soil. Insert the crabapple cuttings into the soil with a depth of about 1/3 or 1/2 of the branch. Compact the soil around the cuttings, water until the soil is moist, and then place it in a cool place to wait for rooting.

Begonia cuttings precautions

Begonia needs to maintain a certain temperature during its growth period. It likes a warm environment and is not cold-resistant in winter, so it is necessary to keep warm, especially in the cold north. If it is planted in the area south of the Yangtze River, it can generally survive the winter safely. When the temperature is high in summer, it needs to be shaded, watered, and sprayed with water on the leaves.
