How to cultivate catalpa

How to cultivate catalpa

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Its normal temperature is between 15 and 25 degrees. It is neither cold-resistant nor heat-resistant. It is suitable for planting in the south because the plant is relatively large. If it is cultivated in the north, it is difficult to take anti-freeze measures.

2. Watering: It likes a slightly moist environment, so the soil should be kept moist for a long time, but there should be no stagnant water. Generally speaking, if the temperature is above 20 degrees, you need to water it every other day. If the temperature is relatively low, watering it once or twice a week will only be enough.

3. Fertilization: It likes fertilizer. In addition to mixing base fertilizer into the soil when planting, you also need to regularly apply manure, bone meal, compost and other mild fertilizers to the soil. This will help promote the growth of the plant's branches and leaves.

4. Light: It is suitable for growing in an environment with sufficient sunlight, so the planting place should be chosen in a sunny place, and the daily light time should not be less than eight hours.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Catalpa ovata can be propagated by the root burying method. The breeding time is selected in late March. Select roots with a thickness of one to two centimeters and a length of fifteen to twenty centimeters from plants with a strong growth and a breast diameter of more than fifteen centimeters. Cut them obliquely to ensure that the incision is smooth. Bury them obliquely in the soil. After burying, press the soil tightly and then give it water once.

2. Pruning: It has a strong sprouting ability and needs frequent pruning. In spring, select three to four main trunks and cut off all the others. After a period of time, new sprouts will grow on the main trunks, and they should also be removed. This can concentrate nutrients and ensure the plant shape.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Pests: It is more susceptible to pests such as paulownia tortoise shell. When the insects are still in the larval stage, it is necessary to spray 3000 times of hypertonic fenoxycarb emulsifiable concentrate once or twice a week.

2. Pathology: Catalpa trees are susceptible to anthracnose in humid climates. When the disease occurs, the leaves will fall off. Therefore, ventilation needs to be strengthened during maintenance. If the plant is infected with anthracnose, you can use carbendazim to spray it.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is non-toxic. Not only is it non-toxic, the bark can also be used and the leaves have a detoxifying effect.

2. Is it suitable for indoor cultivation: If it is a treated potted plant, it can be cultivated indoors. If it has not been treated, it is not recommended for indoor cultivation because its growth rate is too fast and the plant is too large, which does not meet the conditions for home cultivation.
