What vegetables are suitable for growing on semi-sandy land?

What to plant on semi-sandy land

The soil of semi-sandy land is loose, with good drainage and air permeability, but poor water and fertilizer retention capacity. It is suitable for growing vegetables with better drought resistance, such as sesame, sunflower, yam, sweet potato, purple sweet potato, onion, purslane, etc. They do not need too much water during their growth, but they cannot always be watered. Appropriate watering is required.

1. Purple sweet potato

Purple sweet potatoes are suitable for planting in semi-sandy soil. Choose a sunny and ventilated field, then bury the healthy seed potatoes in the field and water them once. After waiting for one to two weeks, the seed potatoes will sprout and grow. At this time, you can provide them with nitrogen fertilizer to make the purple sweet potatoes grow more vigorously.

2. Onion

Onions are suitable for planting in semi-sandy soil. Usually, they can be sown when the ambient temperature is above 7 degrees. Before planting, the soil should be plowed, sufficient fertilizer should be applied to ensure nutrients, and sufficient water should be poured to keep it moist. After selecting the seeds, sow the seeds on the soil, cover with a thin layer of soil about 1 cm, press gently, cover with plastic film, and ensure good light.

3. Purslane

Purslane is suitable for planting in semi-sandy land. It has a wide adaptability to the environment. You can loosen the soil in advance, apply organic fertilizer in combination with land preparation, and then sow the seeds into the soil. When the cultivation area is small, you can also directly plant cuttings in the field. After germination, you can transplant. If the soil is dry, water it in time to keep it slightly moist.

4. Yam

Yams are suitable for planting in semi-sandy soil. Before planting yam, you should choose seed potatoes with full top buds and thick stems. Place them in a greenhouse between 25-30 degrees to germinate, then place them horizontally in the ditch, cover them with soil and water them sufficiently. Water the yam every 3-4 days and build a support for it.

5. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are suitable for planting in semi-sandy soil. Choose a plot that is sheltered from the wind, facing the sun, with high terrain and easy management. You can water it thoroughly once after sowing, which can speed up germination. The soil should be kept moist during the growth period, but no water accumulation should occur. Also, apply appropriate amounts of fertilizer to meet the growth needs of the sweet potatoes.
