Plum growing environment and conditionsPrunes can grow on hillsides and beaches, but are best planted in areas with loose soil and good drainage. They were originally distributed in southwestern France. The prune yield in Sacramento, Santa Carla, Sonoma, Napa and San Joaquin Valley is very high. They are grown in Xinjiang, my country, and also in Guanzhong, Shaanxi, Datong, Shanxi, Changli, Hebei, and Shangqiu, Henan. Prune Growing ConditionsPlums are highly adaptable to the environment and are relatively drought-resistant and cold-resistant. They are not very demanding on the soil, but are suitable for planting in fertile, loose, well-drained soil. The pH value should be between 7 and 8.5, with sandy loam being the main soil. Plum growing temperaturePlums prefer a warm environment and have a certain ability to withstand high and low temperatures. The average temperature for their growth should be above 9 degrees, the minimum temperature should not be lower than minus 22 degrees, and the maximum temperature should not exceed 42 degrees. Prune growth processThe bud sprouting period of plums occurs in March and April, the flowering period is April and May, the fruiting period is from the end of April to the beginning of May, the fruit ripening period is from August to September, and the leaf falling period is from October to November. Plum planting time and methodPlums can be planted if the annual average temperature is above 9 degrees. In southern Xinjiang, peach is used as the rootstock, and the lowest temperature must not be lower than minus 22 degrees. If apricot and native rootstock are used as rootstocks, the annual lowest temperature must not be lower than minus 28 degrees, the highest temperature must not exceed 42 degrees, and the frost-free period must be more than 180 days. Before planting prunes, the soil needs to be renovated, plowed to a depth of about 20 cm, disinfected, and then base fertilizer applied. The row spacing should be kept at 3 meters and the plant spacing should be kept at 2 meters. Generally, fertilizer is applied about three times a year. During the cultivation process, the branches need to be pruned, and dense, overgrown, and messy branches need to be pruned off. During the flowering period, the flowers and fruits need to be thinned out to reduce nutrient loss. |
