How to grow water ferns

How to grow water ferns

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Water ferns prefer a cooler environment, generally around 15 to 20 degrees. In very hot environments, its growth rate may be stunted. It has a strong resistance to low temperatures and can generally survive the winter on its own.

2. Light: Water fern likes light, but it is also shade-tolerant. Some wild ones are also found in shady and humid places. Therefore, a little bit of astigmatism can meet its requirements, and the lighting time does not need to be too long. But try to avoid too strong light, otherwise it may have adverse effects on its leaves and other parts.

3. Watering: Water ferns are generally aquatic, but they can also be grown in dry land and have a certain degree of drought resistance, precisely because of their strong adaptability. Therefore, just try to provide sufficient water and try not to allow the area to dry out for long periods of time.

4. Fertilization: Also because of its strong adaptability, it requires very little nutrients in the soil, and the requirement for topdressing is also not high, so no fertilizer is needed.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: It can be done by cuttings, which is more suitable in spring, but it can also be done in other seasons. The rhizome used as the material must have two to three leaves or some leaf buds on it. Cut it into small pieces of about ten centimeters, and then plant them separately in the soil. Then keep the surrounding humidity appropriate, and new roots will grow after about forty days.

2. Pruning: Water ferns grow very vigorously and their branches and leaves tend to become very messy, so you can trim some of them as appropriate. Furthermore, when the plant is infected with certain diseases, pruning can be used as a means of prevention and control to promote its recovery.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Diseases: As mentioned above, water ferns have very strong adaptability, so generally speaking, they do not have many diseases. There may be occasional "root rot", which affects the root system's ability to absorb water and nutrients.

2. Pests: There are not too many. In bad environmental conditions, "red spiders" may appear. Use avermectin to control them.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: Water fern is non-toxic. Not only does it have the ability to absorb harmful substances, it is also a type of medicine.

2. Can it be grown at home? Yes, but not often, because it is not an ornamental plant.
