There are many varieties of radish, and carrot is one of them. Compared with common white radish, carrot tastes sweeter and is rich in vitamins. Spring is the golden period for carrot planting , especially from late February to early March. As a vitamin-rich vegetable , carrots are not only popular but also easy to grow and store. Let’s learn together how to grow carrots to achieve high yields. 1. Variety selection Choose excellent varieties that are disease-resistant, high-yielding, high-quality, have good appearance, long growth period, and larger plant size. Before sowing, use the new lipid film to mix the seeds to reduce underground pests and viruses, while enhancing the germination rate of seeds. 2. Land preparation and sowing Sow at the appropriate time and apply about 3,000 kg of fully decomposed farmyard manure before sowing, then deep plow the soil, harrow it and make ridges. Use the row sowing method, dig furrows in the ridge with a row spacing of 15 to 20 cm and a depth of about 2 cm. After sowing evenly, gently sweep in the seeds, rake and compact them, and then water them. Spray 800 times diluted new lipid film to keep the soil moist, prevent board formation and increase the germination rate. 3. Field management Keep the soil moist: Water about 3 times after sowing to keep the soil moist. Thinning and transplanting: Thin out the seedlings when they have 1 to 2 leaves, keep the plant spacing at 3 cm, and shallowly hoe between rows. Thin out the seedlings when they have 4 to 5 leaves, and remove overcrowded, weak and diseased plants. Intertillage and weeding: After transplanting, carry out the second intertillage, and tillage shallowly to avoid damaging the roots. Water as appropriate during the seedling stage, keep the surface moderately dry and wet, and loosen the soil in time after watering or rainfall. Control watering and tillage: When the seedlings have 7 to 8 leaves, control watering appropriately, strengthen tillage and loosen the soil , promote the development of taproots and fibrous roots, and prevent excessive growth. Spraying fertilizer and water: Spray fertilizer and water during the growing season to enhance the expansion of the fruit, make the carrot surface smooth and beautiful, and improve yield and quality. Water management: When the fleshy roots grow to the thickness of fingers, control the water content properly to avoid excessive dryness or wetness, so as to reduce wood cork, increase of lateral roots, rot and cracking, and maintain quality. Top dressing: Carrots have a long growth cycle, and the peak period for fertilizer demand is in the middle and late stages. Therefore, on the basis of applying sufficient base fertilizer, top dressing is carried out in stages, mainly with quick-acting fertilizers . Top dressing is applied about 3 times during the entire growth period, once every 15 days. The first topdressing should be done during the potato harvesting stage, applying 15 to 20 kg of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer per mu, combined with watering and spraying 800 times diluted new lipid film to improve fertilizer utilization rate. The above are the methods and technical points of carrot cultivation. As market demand increases, many farmers are growing carrots, and field management is the key to ensuring a good harvest.
