How to grow Syngonium

How to grow Syngonium

1. Maintenance methods

1. Substrate selection: It likes slightly acidic sandy loam with good drainage and air permeability, looseness and fertility. For potted plants, you can use coarse sand, leaf mold and peat soil to mix the soil.

2. Light management: It has strong adaptability and can adapt to different lighting environments. It likes bright scattered light and is best cultivated in a semi-shaded environment. If it is cultivated in an environment with high light intensity, its stems and leaves will be light purple, the leaves will be larger and lighter in color; if it is cultivated in a weak light environment, the leaves will be smaller and darker in color.

3. Water management: It likes moisture and is afraid of dryness. Summer is its peak growth period, so irrigation should be strengthened at this time. You can spray water on the leaves appropriately every day to maintain a high humidity in the potting soil and environment, which is conducive to the growth and development of stems and leaves. If the environment is dry or insufficient water is provided, the leaves may become smaller and rougher, affecting the beauty of the plant.

4. Temperature management: It has weak cold resistance and is suitable for growing in an environment of 22℃-30℃. If the environment is lower than 15℃, it will cause its growth to be slow, and the stems and leaves will stop growing below 10℃. Note that the room temperature should be kept above 5℃ in winter to prevent frostbite on the leaves.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction method: Its main method of reproduction is cutting. When the bottom side branches of the well-growing plant grow three to five leaves, take the branches below the second node and cut them into cuttings of about ten centimeters for cuttings. It is best to use fine sand as the cutting bed and keep the temperature above 25℃. Wait until the new buds grow out and then you can put them in the pot.

2. Pruning method: It grows relatively fast, and pruning can be combined with annual repotting, appropriately cutting off messy branches and old branches.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Yellowing leaves: If the ambient light intensity is too high, it will easily cause the edges of the leaves to turn yellow. In summer, you should take shading measures to prevent the plant from being exposed to direct strong light.

2. Disease: The most common disease is leaf spot. At ordinary times, you should pay attention to keeping the environment well ventilated and drained, and adopt comprehensive prevention and control measures.

IV. Other issues

1. Placement: It is easy to cultivate and has a beautiful plant shape, varied leaf shapes, elegant colors, and high ornamental value. It can be placed in the living room for display. Whether it is hung in a hanging pot for viewing or placed on a pillar for shaping, it has a unique mood.

2. Toxicity: Its juice and rhizomes are poisonous, so try to avoid accidental ingestion by children or pets.
