How to grow red general orchid

How to grow red general orchid

1. Pot soil selection

Its pseudobulb is very large, so it is usually planted in purple clay flower pots. The loam used needs to be breathable, loose and have drainage effects. You can use orchid stone, perlite, plus decomposed coconut shells and pine bark. This preparation can ensure the growth of the roots, facilitate normal breathing, and prevent root rot.

2. Fertilizer supplementation

Fertilizer is indispensable for it. After the flowers wither, sufficient fertilizer must be added during the growing period. Slow-release granular fertilizer can be used, which has a relatively long-lasting effect. You can also use decomposed organic liquid fertilizer. This period is when the growth is vigorous and it is in the differentiation period. Only by ensuring sufficient fertilizer and water can the flower buds differentiate and bloom.

3. Light supplement

The amount of sunlight provided needs to change according to the seasons. In the summer, the light intensity is higher, so it is necessary to block the sunlight in time and avoid direct sunlight. In the winter, the sunlight intensity is reduced, so it is possible to get sufficient sunlight, which is beneficial to the synthesis of nutrients.

4. Temperature range

The temperature range suitable for its growth is about 15-25 degrees Celsius. Pay attention to keeping warm in winter, place it in a heated place, and move it indoors as early as possible to avoid frost damage.
