Technology of grafting pitaya onto Schlumbergera

1. Grafting time

There is no limit to the grafting time, as long as the temperature is around 10-30 degrees, but it is best to choose the period from Qingming Festival to Dragon Boat Festival, when the climate is very suitable and very conducive to survival.

2. Rootstock Selection

The branches are required to be straight and symmetrical, relatively thick and without scars. Then they should be cut with a sharp knife and placed in a cool place to dry so that the wounds can dry naturally. Then they should be inserted into a suitable substrate so that it can take root. Don't rush to graft them. You can maintain them for a while and then cut them after they grow stably. If side buds appear during this process, they need to be cut off in time.

3. Selecting scion

The scion should be green, free of pests and diseases, in good growth condition, and preferably strong. Only 2-4 nodes need to be left on it, and it does not need to be too long.

4. Start grafting

Cut the top of the dragon fruit branch flat, then cut a slit vertically downwards, break it open a little with your hands, then cut an oblique cut at the bottom of the scion, about 1-1.5cm in length, and insert the scion. If it is not stable, you can use a toothpick to fix it. Then place it in a cool and ventilated place, and sprouts will grow after about 12 days.
