What is used to graft plum blossoms?

1. Plum anvil

Using plum blossom as rootstock is a common choice. Plum rootstock grafting has a strong affinity and is more suitable for its growth. They are also less susceptible to disease and insect infestation and have a longer lifespan. Usually it can reach 50-60 years, or even 70-80 years. However, it also has some disadvantages, such as slow growth rate. Moreover, due to its hard texture, grafting is somewhat difficult.

2. Li Zhen

The affinity between plum trees and apricot trees is also very good, and red-leaf plum is generally used as the rootstock. Like the plum rootstock, the plum rootstock does not grow fast after grafting, but it has better disease resistance and a longer lifespan.

3. Apricot rootstock

Apricot rootstock is mostly used for grafting in the north because of its better cold and drought resistance. However, the tree usually grafted onto the apricot rootstock is apricot plum, and grafting true plum is extremely difficult. After successful grafting, the growth will be better than that of plum and peach rootstocks, and the lifespan will be longer.

4. Peach rootstock

Peach rootstock is easy to cultivate after grafting, and the survival rate is also very high. It blooms earlier than the others. However, due to its poor affinity, it will become more susceptible to disease the longer you raise it, and the quality of its flowers and colors will also decline. Generally, the service life is short, about 20 years, and it is easy to leak glue.
