Chlorophytum cultivation methods and techniques

Chlorophytum cultivation methods and techniques

Chlorophytum is a very popular indoor plant. It not only purifies the air, but also adds green beauty to the interior and is suitable for placement in a variety of environments. Chlorophytum is a relatively easy to maintain home potted plant . Let’s learn together the cultivation methods and techniques of spider plants.

1. Soil selection

Chlorophytum likes loose, breathable, well-drained slightly acidic soil. You can use leaf mold, garden soil and sandy soil and mix them in a certain proportion, for example, leaf mold: garden soil: river sand = 1:1:1.

2. Lighting Management

Chlorophytum likes semi-shady environment and avoids direct sunlight. During the growth period, spider plants should be placed in a place with sufficient scattered light, avoiding direct sunlight, especially in the summer. Turn the flower pots regularly to ensure that the plants receive even light and improve their ornamental value.

3. Watering Tips

Chlorophytum likes a humid environment, but is not tolerant to waterlogging. Watering should follow the principle of "water when dry and water when wet", that is, water after the soil surface is dry, and water thoroughly when you do. Watering is required every day during the high temperatures in summer, but in winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced to 1-2 times a week. In dry seasons, you can spray water on the surrounding environment to keep the air moist.

4. Fertilization method

Chlorophytum does not require much fertilizer , but applying enough fertilizer can promote its growth. During the growing period (spring and autumn), apply thin liquid fertilizer or compound fertilizer once a month. When applying fertilizer, avoid splashing fertilizer onto the leaves to avoid leaf burns. Water the plants in time after fertilizing to promote fertilizer absorption.

5. Pruning and shaping

Chlorophytum grows rapidly, and timely pruning can promote the growth of its branches and side buds, making the plant fuller. Regularly trim off yellow, diseased or overly long branches and leaves to keep the plant neat and beautiful.

6. Repotting and changing soil

The roots of spider plants tend to grow too long, and keeping them in a pot for a long time will cause the soil to lose fertility. It is recommended to repot and change the soil every spring or autumn to renew the soil and promote the growth of spider plants.

In summary, spider plants are suitable for being placed in bright places indoors but not in direct sunlight, such as living rooms, study rooms or balconies. Avoid placing it in a place exposed to cold wind or direct sunlight. Chlorophytum rarely suffers from serious diseases and insect pests, but it is occasionally attacked by pests such as aphids and red spiders. Improving ventilation and lighting can prevent the occurrence of diseases and pests. When pests and diseases are found, biological or chemical control methods can be used to eliminate them.
