How to grow Christmas cactus with flower buds

How to grow Christmas cactus with flower buds

1. Control watering

After Christmas cactus grows flower buds, you need to control the amount of water and reduce the frequency of watering. The soil in the pot should not be too moist. If the soil is not completely dry, do not water it, otherwise the flower buds will easily fall off. Proper water control can make the flowers bloom longer and more.

2. Appropriate amount of fertilizer

The flowering period of Christmas cactus is relatively long, lasting from October in autumn to April in the following spring. During this period, it will bloom continuously and consume more nutrients. If fertilizer is not added in time, the flower buds will easily fall off or dry up. Normally, high-phosphorus fertilizer should be applied once every ten days or so, and it can be mixed with water and sprayed on the leaves.

3. Suitable lighting

It is a short-day plant and needs more than six hours of light a day to bloom normally. Before flowering, the light should be increased so that flower buds can form. If the daytime light exposure time is not enough, you need to use lights to supplement the light at night.

4. Control temperature

After it has flower buds, you should pay attention to temperature control. The temperature should be maintained at around 10 degrees at night before flowering. After the flower buds are formed, it should be raised to between 20 and 22 degrees. It should be above 22 degrees during the day. This will allow it to bloom early, which is also beneficial to the formation of flower buds.
