When and how to plant violets

When and how to plant violets

1. Planting time

The planting time for violets is generally from mid-August to early October, but it can be adjusted according to the time of flowering. If you want to use the flowers in May, plant them in February. If you want to use the flowers in June, plant them in March. But if planted in July, it will take until February of the following year to bloom.

2. Planting Method

Violets are usually propagated by seeds. Choose single-petal flowers for seed collection, place the seeds in moist potting soil, cover them with a layer of fine soil, and place them in a cool place. Do not water immediately after planting. If the soil in the pot is dry, you can soak water in the bottom of the pot or use a watering can to sprinkle water on the soil surface. Transplantation is required before the true leaves unfold. Pull out the seedlings, keep the soil ball on top, and do not damage the roots. After that, add animal manure as base fertilizer in the pot, fill the soil with water after planting, and place it in a shaded place. After it survives, move it to a sunny location.

3. Seedling care

1. Watering: Water sufficiently during the seedling stage. Water every other day and keep the soil moist. But be sure to avoid water accumulation, and drain the water in time if too much water is poured.

2. Fertilization: Apply liquid fertilizer every 10 days during the seedling stage, but the amount should not be too much. This will help vigorous growth without damaging the roots and stems.

3. Picking buds: Start picking buds two months after planting. Keep 6 or 7 true leaves, and then remove the terminal buds. Keep 3-4 branches on the side branches and remove the others.
