Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Polygonatum odoratum

Causes and treatments of yellow leaves of Polygonatum odoratum

1. Overwatering

Reason: Polygonatum odoratum is most afraid of stagnant water. If you water too much, the soil will be too wet for a long time, which will hinder the absorption and respiration of nutrients by the roots of Polygonatum odoratum, and the leaves will show signs of yellowing.

Treatment: Stop watering immediately, loosen the soil and place it in a ventilated place, waiting for the plant to recover. After that, during maintenance, you need to control the amount of water, loosen the soil frequently, and improve the soil's air permeability. In addition, do not water during the midday hours in summer.

2. Temperature is too high

Reason: It prefers a cool climate and is relatively cold-resistant. The optimal growth temperature is between 15℃-25℃. If the temperature is too high or the plant is in a hot and stuffy environment for a long time, the leaves will turn yellow or even fall off.

Solution: Move the potted plants to a cool and ventilated place, and water the leaves to achieve the purpose of cooling down. In summer, avoid keeping Polygonatum odoratum in a stuffy environment, provide more ventilation and avoid direct sunlight.

3. Excessive fertilization

Reason: Excessive fertilization will cause water loss at the roots of Polygonatum odoratum and even death, resulting in root rot, withering, etc.

Treatment: Stop fertilizing immediately and water more to dilute the excess salt in the soil. It is best to use thin fertilizer when fertilizing.

4. Pests and diseases

Reason: Polygonatum odoratum is mainly affected by diseases such as leaf spot, root rot, gray spot, and insect pests include white grubs, which will cause its leaves to turn yellow.

Treatment: It is necessary to find out the cause according to the symptoms in time and use relevant drugs for treatment. For example, if there are white grubs, you can use 1000~1500 times the concentration of 90% crystal dichlorvos to water the soil around the roots until the pests are killed.
