How to care for lilies after their flowering period

How to care for lilies after their flowering period

1. Plastic surgery

After the plant blooms, it can be pruned appropriately, but be careful not to prune at noon. Morning or evening is best so as not to affect its normal growth. When pruning, cut off the remaining flowers, dead branches and excess side branches on the plant to prevent them from consuming a large amount of nutrients. After pruning, it will bloom more and more beautiful flowers in the second year.

2. Reduce watering

Lilies become very fragile after blooming, so you cannot water them immediately after pruning them. You must reduce the amount of watering because they will slowly enter a dormant state after blooming and will no longer absorb water. If there is too much water in the pot, the roots will rot, and their growth will be restricted, and in severe cases, they will die. So be sure to control the amount of water.

3. Fertilization and topdressing

After flowering, be sure to apply fertilizer and topdressing correctly. During the flowering period, you can apply compound fertilizer to it once a week, and the best time is to apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer each time. After flowering, you can stop fertilizing. This will allow it to bloom more beautiful flowers and extend the flowering period.

4. Keep warm in winter

After flowering, the temperature gradually drops and winter comes slowly. The temperature it can adapt to is 16 to 24 degrees. It must not be lower than 5 degrees, otherwise it will affect its growth. Therefore, you must pay attention to keeping warm in winter. You can move it indoors and keep the temperature above 10 degrees. This will allow it to safely survive the winter and bloom normally in the second year.
