How many times a year are cucumbers planted?

The growth cycle of cucumber from sowing to maturity generally takes about 60-120 days. This time will vary depending on factors such as variety, planting method and climatic conditions. So how many times a year should cucumbers be planted?

How many times a year are cucumbers planted?

Cucumbers can be planted 2-3 times a year. The specific number of planting times will vary according to local climatic conditions. For example, when grown in a greenhouse or shed , cucumbers can be planted more times, generally 6 times a year. Therefore, by arranging the planting time reasonably and combining it with local climate characteristics, we can make full use of the spring, summer and autumn seasons to plant cucumbers to increase yield and quality.

Specifically, the growth cycle of cucumber can be divided into the following stages:

Germination period: usually takes 5-10 days. Seedling stage: From the appearance of true leaves to the presence of 4-5 true leaves, it usually takes 20-30 days.

Initial flowering period: From the appearance of 5-6 true leaves to the establishment of the root melon, it usually takes 15-25 days.

Fruiting period: From the time the root melon is established to the time when the seedlings are pulled out, the length of this period will have a certain impact on the cucumber yield.

Precautions for high-yield cucumber planting

Choose the right variety: Choose suitable cucumber varieties according to the season. For example, spring cucumbers need to be grown in protected facilities, and early-maturing and high-yielding varieties should be selected; summer and autumn cucumbers need to choose heat-resistant and disease-resistant varieties.

Scientific sowing: Soaking seeds to germinate and sow is better than direct sowing with dry seeds. Dig small furrows on both sides of the high ridge, sow the seeds for germination after watering, and then cover with wet soil.

Deeply plow the land and apply more fertilizers: Choose loam with good irrigation conditions and good air permeability for planting, and apply more well-rotted organic fertilizers , such as manure, compost or crushed crop straw. Generally, apply 5000-7500 kg of organic fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer, 100 kg of cake fertilizer and 50 kg of superphosphate.

Seedling cultivation: The seedling age is about 35 days. The standards for strong seedlings include intact cotyledons, 3-5 true leaves, short internodes, a 45-degree angle between the petiole and the main vine, dark green leaves, thick leaves, thick stems, a well-developed root system, and no diseases or pests.

Fertilization and bed making: prepare the land, apply 5 cubic meters of well-rotted organic fertilizer, 25-30 kg of superphosphate or 10-15 kg of diammonium phosphate. Before planting, the soil should be tilled and the ridges should be 1.2 meters wide and more than 15 centimeters high, and covered with plastic film.

In general, the number of times cucumbers are planted in a year is related to the planting method, variety, and climatic conditions. It takes about 2 to 4 months to plant a cucumber, and the specific time depends on the duration of each of the above-mentioned growth stages.
