How to grow peony in spring

How to grow peony in spring

1. Pruning

Spring is the growing season for peonies, and the growth rate is extremely fast at this time. It has been pruned once in winter, and it needs to be pruned again in spring based on the pruning in winter. The main objects of pruning are dry and rotten branches and leaves, followed by underdeveloped branches. After pruning, be careful not to let the cut surface get wet, as it will easily rot if exposed to water. Wait until the cut surface of the branch is dry before it can come into contact with water.

2. Fertilization

It consumes nutrients faster in spring and needs more nutrients. In early spring, you should use fertilizers with lower efficiency, such as farmyard manure, fermented manure, animal manure, etc., and the interval between use is half a month. In late spring, its growth state has become relatively stable. At this time, you can use fertilizers with slightly stronger effects, such as compound fertilizers, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, etc. If potassium dihydrogen phosphate is used, it needs to be diluted before use. The way to use it is to spray it directly on the peony. The frequency of use is once a week.

3. Lighting

The right amount of light is beneficial to plant growth. The sunlight in early spring is mild, so the plant can be placed in a sunny place for all-day sunlight. By the end of spring, the sun will be stronger. You can receive sunlight as usual in the morning and evening, but you need to move to a cool place to avoid the sun at noon.

4. Watering

It is quite drought-resistant and does not require excessive watering, even in spring. Watering once or twice a week is enough. The water used cannot be freshly tap water. The tap water should be air-dried before use.
