There are many varieties of elm trees. There are about 40 species of elm trees in the world, and 25 species and 6 varieties of elm trees in my country. Common varieties include the long-sequenced elm, American elm, European white elm, drunkard elm, large-fruited elm, peeling elm, Hangzhou elm, split-leaf elm, Xingshan elm, Shu elm, Alishan elm, and white elm. It is grown all over the country, mostly in areas north of the Yangtze River, such as Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia. In addition, elm has high ornamental, economic and medicinal value, and is also one of the main tree species for creating windbreaks, soil and water conservation forests and saline-alkali land afforestation in my country.

2. Which one is more precious?

Most elm trees have strong adaptability and low requirements for the growing environment. Moreover, they grow fast, have a long lifespan, require low cultivation conditions, and are relatively easy to keep alive, so there are relatively few extremely precious varieties. However, some varieties of elm trees have a greater impact on people's lives.

From the perspective of practical value and economic value, the more precious elm species include the drunkard's elm, large-fruited elm, Hangzhou elm, split-leaf elm, Xingshan elm, white elm, dragon claw elm, and dry elm. Most of them can be used as materials for utensils, furniture, etc., or can be used as afforestation and urban landscape tree species in the Northwest Desert, North China and Huaibei Plains, hills and Northeast barren mountains, sandy land and coastal saline-alkali land. They have high ornamental value.
