How to grow Photinia

How to grow Photinia

1. Maintenance methods

1. Potting soil: The photinia is native to subtropical regions, so it is a very drought-resistant plant, but also a very cold-intolerant plant. Therefore, it is best to choose floral mud as the potting soil, because floral mud has better drainage, so it will not cause frost damage in winter. During normal maintenance, the soil in the pot should be as thick as possible, and the soil should be changed every two years. When changing the soil, base fertilizer can be added to the soil to ensure that it grows stronger.

2. Fertilizer: It is best to fertilize it during its growing season in spring, because it originally grows in a very barren place and does not require much water and fertilizer. Excessive fertilization will cause the plant to grow too tall, but too little fertilizer will make the plant very weak. Therefore, you must control the amount well. When applying fertilizer, you can loosen the soil appropriately so that the fertilizer can penetrate into the soil better.

3. Water: The water used for watering it is a bit particular. It is best to choose more natural water, such as rainwater is excellent, river water is also OK. If conditions do not permit, you can use tap water at home, but it needs to be dried for a day or two before use, because tap water at home contains chlorine.

2. Pest and disease control

As for diseases and pests of Photinia quinata, we all know that its biggest enemy is the longhorn beetle. This insect will bite the bark of the plant and then bore into the trunk, so that the plant will slowly be eaten away by it. We can strangle it with wire and inject medicine into it, and then block the wormhole with wet mud.
