How to Grow Polygonatum

How to Grow Polygonatum

1. Soil

When breeding, you need to use soil with a deep layer, good air permeability and drainage, and it should also be slightly acidic, which is more conducive to growth. In addition, the soil should be changed once a year so that the nutrients will be more sufficient and the growth will be more vigorous.

2. Lighting

It is relatively shade-tolerant and should not be placed in direct sunlight during maintenance as it is prone to sunburn and the leaves will turn yellow, affecting its appearance. Also be careful not to place it in a drafty place. It is best to place it in a place sheltered from the wind and with diffuse light.

3. Fertilization

Fertilize frequently during maintenance, especially during the growing season, so that the plant will grow more vigorously with sufficient nutrients. Organic fertilizer can be used as fertilizer, but if base fertilizer is mixed into the soil, a small amount should be applied later to avoid root burn. It is best to apply an appropriate amount of decomposed manure before winter, which will help the plants survive the winter and reduce the laying of eggs by pests.

4. Watering

It is not drought-tolerant during the seedling stage and should be watered in time, but it is afraid of waterlogging. Good drainage work must be done during the rainy season. Once there is water accumulation, the roots will easily rot, affecting growth.

5. Pests and diseases

Various diseases and pests are likely to occur during maintenance, the most common of which are gray spot disease, purple ring disease, root rot, leaf spot disease and scale insects. Once infected, they will seriously affect the growth of the plants, and timely medication should be used for prevention and control.
