How to grow lotus leaves

How to grow lotus leaves

1. Soil quality

Lotus leaves are usually grown using hydroponics, but soil is still needed to establish roots. It is best to use pond mud as soil to reduce water pollution. Alternatively, you can also mix sand, loess and garden soil to make the soil, but do not use sludge.

2. Lighting

It likes light very much, and it is best to place it in the light when caring for it, so that its growth rate will be faster and more vigorous. If it is potted, it needs to be exposed to sunlight for four to six hours a day, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and it may not bloom.

3. Temperature

It is afraid of environments with large temperature differences, so protective measures should be taken every morning and evening. Normally, as long as the temperature is above 15 degrees, it will be fine. In winter, the temperature must be controlled as the plant has poor cold resistance, so avoid frostbite.

4. Water Quality

When caring for the plant, use clean water without impurities. Do not use too much water in the initial stage. The water level should be between three and five centimeters. Too deep will be detrimental to growth. As the plant develops, it can slowly increase to 16 cm.

5. Fertilization

Before potting, you can mix an appropriate amount of base fertilizer into the soil to improve fertility and promote development. Adding nutrient solution to the water during the growing season can promote the growth of roots, stems, flowers and leaves. In addition, be careful to stop fertilizing when the temperature is high or low to avoid fertilizer damage.
