Diseases and Pests of Hosta and Their Control

Pests of Hosta

In summer, care should be taken to prevent snails and slugs from damaging hosta flowers.

Pest control methods

When the hosta is infested with insect pests, it is necessary to spray pesticides in time for treatment.

Diseases of Hosta

Hosta prefers moist and fertile soil and is suitable for growing in a cool place. Hosta is prone to spot disease, which is easily caused when the temperature is between 22°-28° and the relative humidity is above 85%. If the weather is hot and dry during the day and dewy at night, it is easy to cause spot disease of hosta. In addition to the above situations, when growing Hosta, lack of fertilizer, lack of water, or flooding and poor growth may cause spot disease.

Spot disease is caused by bacterial infection. The main harm to hosta is the leaves. Most of the time, the disease starts from old leaves or the edges and tips of leaves. At the beginning, it appears as small spots that fade into green, and then gradually expand into large irregular semicircular spots with blue-brown edges, unclear boundaries, and grayish white in the middle. In the later stage, small black spots will grow densely on the spots, causing the leaves to turn yellow, affecting yield and quality.

How to prevent and treat spot disease

Sick hostas require better management, apply sufficient fertilizer, cultivate strong seedlings, water them moderately and avoid flooding them, strengthen ventilation in the cultivation shed, and lower the temperature. At the same time, the sick and disabled bodies must be removed in time.

Chemical methods can also be used to treat the spot disease of hosta. Regular spraying of Guoguang Yintai (80% Zineb wettable powder) 600-800 times diluted + Guoguang Tasiling amino acid chelated foliar fertilizer with multiple trace elements) can prevent hosta from getting spot disease, supplement nutrition and improve the ornamental value of the flowers. At the early stage of the disease, spray 500-600 times of 25% prochloraz emulsifiable concentrate, and spray 2-3 times continuously at intervals of 7-10 days to effectively treat the spot disease of hosta.
