Can fruit trees be transplanted in winter?

Can fruit trees be transplanted in winter?

1. Is it possible?

The temperature is low in winter, and fruit trees generally enter a dormant period. At this time, they can be transplanted to reduce damage to them. But be careful to do this before the soil freezes, otherwise you will get frostbite. In addition, attention should also be paid to the transplanting method. Improper methods will also affect growth next year.

2. Transplanting method

1. Dig out the plants: When transplanting, you must first dig the fruit trees out of the original plot. Be careful to retain the soil ball of the roots, which can protect the roots from frostbite. A soil ball that is ten times the size of the diameter of the fruit tree should be left. After processing, water it appropriately to keep it moist.

2. Deal with the roots and branches: After digging them out, cut off the rotten roots and then apply a preservative. In addition, it is necessary to prune branches and leaves to reduce water loss, which is more beneficial to later survival.

3. Transportation and planting: After digging out and processing, it can be transported. Be careful not to damage the soil during transportation. It is best to fix the fruit tree with a rope to avoid collision. When planting, dig a hole that is twice as large as the soil ball, add an appropriate amount of phosphorus fertilizer at the bottom, and then put the fruit tree in the fill soil. After filling, tamp it down and water it thoroughly, and cover the tree tray with plastic film to keep it moist and warm so that it can survive the winter smoothly.
