Disease and Pest Control of Toona Sinensis

Disease and Pest Control of Toona Sinensis

Toona sinensis powdery mildew

The distribution of this pest is very wide, affecting the whole country. It mainly harms the leaves of Chinese toon, and in severe cases it can also infect the branches. After becoming infected, the leaves of Chinese toon will have yellow and white spots, and symptoms such as branch deformation may also occur, which will have a very adverse effect on the development of the crown and the growth of the tree.

When this happens, the affected branches and leaves should be removed immediately. Strengthen the management of Chinese toon, don't forget to fertilize and spray certain pesticides to play a preventive role.

Toona sinensis blight

The disease is most likely to occur in young trees and has a high incidence rate. In the early stages of infection, some small black spots will appear on the branches and the epidermis of the branches will turn brown. In the later stages of the disease, the branches will gradually wither, and the sunny side will be most severely damaged.

After infection, the branches should be cut off and destroyed, and in winter and spring, the trunk of the toon should be painted white. You can also apply Bordeaux liquid on the wound for pruning.

Toona sinensis leaf rust

This disease is more common in areas with high yields of Chinese toon. After the onset of the disease, the growth rate of Chinese toon slows down and the leaves show signs of falling off. The threat of infection exists all year round, and is more likely to occur in autumn due to the dry climate. In the early stage of the disease, small yellow spots will appear on the leaves, and there will be protrusions on the back of the leaves. When the protrusions burst, black winter spores will be produced, which will cause the leaves to turn yellow little by little until they fall off.

In winter, you should clean up fallen leaves in time to reduce the accumulation of infectious bacteria, and you can also use pesticides for prevention.
