How to care for water lilies bought from flower shops

How to care for water lilies bought from flower shops

1. Prune the roots

After buying the water lily, you should trim the roots properly. Trim off a small length of the roots so that 6-8cm of the flower head can be exposed in the vase. If the flower head is kept too long, it will not only bend and droop easily, but it will also be detrimental to its water absorption. Note that it should be cut at an angle so that it can better combine with water.

2. Clean the vase

Choose a vase of suitable size and clean the inner wall with clean water. Remember that there must be no dirt inside, which will pollute the water quality and affect the growth of water lilies. After washing it, just fill it with 2/3 of water. Don’t fill it too full, otherwise the water will overflow after you insert the water lily.

3. Deal with it

Use clean tap water to water it, and pour water from the bottom into the flower stem. Because it is suitable for water cultivation and it likes water very much, we need to replenish water appropriately. Only by ensuring that it has enough water can it have a longer lifespan. In addition, if there is a green coat on the flower bud, it should be broken off, otherwise it will be difficult for it to bloom.

4. Water culture

The last step is to carefully place the processed water lilies into a vase filled with clean water and place it in a well-lit and warm place. Note that during the water cultivation period, the water should be changed every 2 days and its roots should be cleaned. The roots should be trimmed every 3-4 days and the inner wall of the vase should also be cleaned properly.
