How many days does it take for green onions to sprout?

Green onion is a common vegetable , also known as green onion, long onion, etc. It has a long history of cultivation in China and is cultivated all over the country. Its cultivation and management require certain techniques and precautions. So how many days does it take for green onions to germinate? Let’s take a look below.

1. How many days does it take for green onions to sprout?

How many days it takes for the seedlings to emerge depends on the planting time and method of the onions. Generally speaking, green onions can be planted in spring and autumn, but the planting time may vary depending on the climatic conditions in different regions. Under suitable conditions, it usually takes 7-10 days for green onions to germinate.

2. Green onion planting technology

1. Seedling cultivation

① Sowing time: In order to increase the yield of green onions in the later period, it is best to choose autumn sowing. The climate in the north and south is different. The best sowing time is to determine the size of the seedlings before wintering. The best time is when they grow to two leaves and one heart.

②Prepare the seedbed: Choose a flat, fertile, water-rich plot for shallow ploughing and fine harrowing, then apply sufficient base fertilizer and make a bed 20-25 meters long and 1 meter wide.

③Sowing: Before sowing, water the bed sufficiently, wait for the water to penetrate into the soil, mix the seeds with sand, and spread them evenly twice in the bed.

2. Seedling management

① To avoid ground hardening before seeds germinate, control watering. Water for the first time when the cotyledons are straightened. When the seedlings grow to 2 cm, use medicine in time to prevent fungal diseases.

②Do a good job of management before winter. When the seedlings grow to 8-10 cm and have two leaves and one bud, water them 1-3 times according to the humidity of the site, and cover the ground with a layer of wood ash.

③ To prevent the seedlings planted in autumn from being crushed when they emerge, clean up the debris on the ground, water and fertilize every half a month, and stop watering half a month before transplanting.

3. Transplanting and planting

① Site selection and land preparation: Apply sufficient base fertilizer on a plot with high terrain, good drainage and fertile soil. Then, plow and dry the soil to eliminate pathogens and weeds. Finally, dig trenches with a distance of 80 cm and a depth and width of 25 cm each.

② Early planting at the right time: Water the seedlings once a day before transplanting. Pay attention to deep root digging and removing the soil when transplanting the seedlings. The seedlings should be divided into three levels according to size, height, and thickness.

③ Planting method

Dry planting method: Arrange the onion seedlings in sequence on one side of the ditch wall at a certain spacing, making sure that the onion leaves are against the ditch wall. Use a hoe to cultivate the soil, being careful not to bury the heart leaves. Remember to water after planting.

Hydroponics method: Place the seedlings evenly on the back ridge at a spacing of one meter and one handful at a time. Water them and then plant them on the back of the ridge every 8-10 meters after the water has seeped down. Be careful not to plant them in uneven heights.

4. Post-management

① Watering at the right time: If it is hot and rainy after transplanting, do not water. If it rains continuously, pay attention to drainage. In dry weather, pay attention to watering to cool down.

② Soil cultivation and fertilization: During the vigorous growth period of onion, soil cultivation and topdressing should be carried out in time. Be careful not to bury the heart leaves when cultivating the soil. Soil cultivation and topdressing should be carried out at the same time. In the later stage, topdressing should be done four times.

③ Pest control: Pay attention to disease and pest control during the growth stage of onions. When diseases and pests are found, spray pesticides in time according to the type of pests.

④ Harvest and storage: Harvest around the beginning of winter and place in a cool and ventilated place after harvest. When encountering hot weather, be sure to unbundle and dry them, and do a good job of waterproofing during storage.

In order to increase the yield of green onions, it is advisable to choose autumn sowing, sow in fertile and water-rich land, and control watering to avoid hardening of the ground. Before transplanting, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied, and a plot with high terrain and good drainage should be selected, using dry planting or hydroponics. In the later stage, watering, soil cultivation, fertilization, disease and pest control should be done well, and the crops should be harvested in time and stored properly.
