How to grow gardenia in winter

How to grow gardenia in winter

1. Control the temperature

Although its maximum temperature is minus twelve degrees Celsius, when caring for it, you still need to adjust the temperature to a temperature suitable for its growth. If you can keep the growing temperature at around five degrees, it can survive the winter smoothly. If the temperature is too high, it will wake up prematurely, which is equivalent to breaking its growth rules and has a great negative impact on its growth.

2. Breeding location

In the south, it can be raised outdoors, but in the north it needs to be moved indoors for maintenance. If the plant is planted outdoors, anti-freeze measures need to be taken before the cold air arrives. You can wrap the tree trunk with waste cotton wool or wrap the entire plant with plastic.

3. Ensure lighting

Its leaves will not fall off or turn yellow in autumn and winter, but if the light cannot meet its needs, its metabolism cannot be completed normally, and the leaves will fall off and turn yellow. In winter, it needs at least four hours of sunlight every day. If possible, it is best to place it in a sunny place to facilitate photosynthesis.

3. Control watering

Generally speaking, watering is done once a month in winter, but if the indoor temperature is warmer, the evaporation of water will be faster, and the watering method needs to be decided based on the water shortage status of the plant. When watering, check the condition of the soil first. If the surface is dry, you can water it without waiting until the soil is completely dry. When watering, do not water heavily, but water slowly until the soil is completely wet.
