Cultivation methods and precautions for orange tree potted plants

Cultivation methods and precautions for orange tree potted plants

It is not difficult to grow a potted orange tree at home, because it is a woody plant. As long as there is sufficient light, no lack of water, and sufficient nutrients, there will basically be no problem. The soil should be as breathable, loose, fertile and well-drained as possible.

How to grow orange trees in pots

Potted orange trees can generally only grow well in well-ventilated and sunny places. The growth of orange trees has relatively strict requirements on the soil. It requires the soil to be fertile, breathable, and have good drainage properties. Usually, it needs to be watered every 2-3 days and fertilized every 14-17 days.

1. Moisture

In mild seasons, you can water the plants every 2 to 3 days. In the hot summer, you can increase the frequency of watering, but do not water them frequently, and avoid watering at noon in summer, as this will cause damage to the potted plants.

2. Soil

The soil for cultivating orange trees should be rich in humus, loose, fertile and well-drained. Fertilizers should be applied frequently and infrequently, and acidic fertilizers are the best. High nitrogen fertilizers should be used in the early growth period, and high potassium fertilizers should be used after the oranges begin to color. The main time for fertilization is during the spring budding period, and it is better to apply fertilizers once every half a month.

3. Sunlight

Potted orange trees are afraid of strong light, and too strong light can easily burn the leaves, so they need to be grown under a shade shed in the summer. In autumn and winter, they should be placed in a sunny place indoors to allow them to receive sufficient light. In spring, windows can be opened for ventilation to allow them to adapt to the outdoor temperature. After they have adapted, they can be taken out for outdoor maintenance.

Matters Needing Attention in Caring for Orange Trees in Pots

When caring for orange trees in pots, you should pay attention to pruning the trees regularly. Because the orange trees are planted in pots, the space is relatively small and the nutrients available to the trees are naturally less. Therefore, you should regularly trim the branches and leaves of the orange trees and remove the weeds and diseased branches and leaves.
