Apple Planting Technology and Management

Apple Planting Technology and Management

It is very important to choose the variety before planting apple trees. Do not choose short saplings. If planting in the north, you must also consider a certain degree of cold resistance. If it is a potted apple tree, it is best to plant it in spring or autumn. If you are not in a hurry to harvest and want the apple tree to store more nutrients, it is best to plant it in autumn, so that the fruit will be larger. For apple trees in pots, make sure that any rotten roots have been trimmed and watered thoroughly.

Apple planting technology

1. Choose the variety

Different varieties of apples have different characteristics and sugar content. Before planting apples, you must first select excellent varieties and decide which variety of apples to plant based on the characteristics you want.

2. Soil management

Apples are suitable for planting in loose, well-drained and ventilated soil, preferably fertile and humus-rich soil. Fertilizer can be applied to the soil before planting.

3. Planting density

The planting density of apples will affect the yield. Generally speaking, the density is determined based on the terrain, climate, etc. of the planting area. Normally, 33 trees are planted per acre.

4. Soil management

Before planting apples, the land needs to be managed. Basically, there are three types of land management, namely deep plowing, weeding, and tillage. Deep plowing is required before and after planting to increase looseness and air permeability. Weeds should be cleared regularly during the growing season, and tillage should be carried out after the harvest in autumn.

Apple Management Methods

1. Fertilization method

Apply base fertilizer before and after apples are ripe and harvested. Just dig the soil around the root system and apply the fertilizer. Be sure not to dig too deep and do not let the roots get cold.

2. Fruit tree pruning

Apples need to be pruned during the sapling stage and the peak fruit-bearing stage. During the sapling stage, the overgrown branches should be cut off, and during the peak fruit-bearing stage, the excess branches in the crown should be cut off to avoid affecting the fruit trees and branches from receiving light.

3. Picking flowers

If all the flowers of an apple tree are allowed to grow, it will affect the quality of the apples and may result in no flowers blooming the following year. Therefore, the flowers must be picked appropriately in order to grow large, delicious fruits.

4. Bagging and unbagging

Bagging apples can prevent diseases and pests, and can also beautify the fruit and make it look better. In the later stage, we can remove the bags in time according to the condition of the fruit trees.
