Common Pests of Gardenia and Their Control Methods

Common Pests of Gardenia and Their Control Methods

Red Spider

Hazard manifestations

Red spider mites mainly harm the leaves of gardenias. Red spider mites parasitize on gardenias, mainly feeding on the sap of the leaves, and often gather on the back of the leaves. Plants infested by spider mites have yellow leaves and weak growth. In addition, red spider mites reproduce faster in high and dry temperature environments.

Prevention and treatment measures

1. Maintain suitable humidity in the environment and do not create breeding conditions for red spider mites. Mist frequently when the air is dry, lower the temperature and increase the humidity.

2. When you find red spider mites, immediately rinse them with clean water to kill them.

In three households, you can soak yellow tobacco leaves or cigarette butts in water and spray them, which has a significant contact killing effect.

Scale insects

Hazard manifestations

Scale insects are pests that damage the branches and leaves of gardenias. Although they are small in size, their lethality should not be underestimated. Scale insects feed on the sap of the plant. In mild cases, the leaves turn yellow and fall off, and the plant grows weak. In severe cases, the whole plant dies, which has a great impact on the growth and development of gardenia.

Prevention and treatment measures

Scale insects are small in size, often gather together, and secrete wax, which looks like a pile of white wax powder. Just pick it down with a stick and crush it to death. Or spray 1000 times solution of 80% DDT to kill.

Every spring when flowers bloom, spray 0.2-0.5 degrees of lime sulfur to kill insect eggs. This method plays a great role in preventing pests.
